The Halcyon Project

Synopsis

The Halcyon Project is the code name for a experimenttal government project in mind control.

The story is set in a fictional future, with the feel of a Cold War East Berlin controlled by the brutal Nazi SS. Our fictional world is governed by an oppressive body known as The Board of Policy; a huge bureaucratic machine with overlapping divisions and departments; the most notable being The Board of Enforcement.

Enforcement as it's referred to, is the military branch of the government and has nearly unlimited rein and authority. Those that wear the Enforcement uniform are feared and, at least outwardly, treated with respect. The brutal actions of Enforcement are questioned at one’s own risk and only from behind closed doors.

An elite government research team has discovered a method of flooding the air with a high-powered energy wave, carried atop a radio frequency carrier undetectable from the wash of traffic already swimming through the air. This signal produces a calming effect which renders those under its spell docile and impotent to the actions of freewill.

The story centers on Rick Morgan, a highly successful software engineer specializing in system security. After Rick is contracted by a ghost organization to recover some lost security codes, he finds himself imprisoned and face to face with one of Enforcement’s top interrogators.

At the same time, an underground organization known as the Resistive Movement—an organization that actively works to disrupt the inner workings of The Board—has become aware of the despicable government plan.

During a routine hacking expedition into the bowels of the government mainframe, one of their longtime operatives, Kirk Anderson, stumbles across some of the communication files on Halcyon. Realizing that they must gain control over the project in order to destroy it, he devices a plan which hinges on the one man that has the ability to gain complete access to all the security codes needed to backdoor into the system; Rick Morgan.

But Kirk is unaware that another plan is already in motion to free Rick—a plan that’s being executed from inside The Board. The two plans diverge into a chaotic chase and a high tech, cat and mouse game.

The very future of the Resistive Movement is in danger because of the traitor in their midst and he’s biding his time before springing the trap—the trap that will ultimately bring the Movement to its knees and allow Enforcement to send a blood curdling message to all that would choose to appose them.

The Halcyon Project is intended for adult readers. It contains a steamy sex scene or two, some gory violence and adult language. It should appeal to those individuals that enjoy reading action adventure, science fiction or mystery and suspense.
