Synopsis
Although Halcyon II is the sequel to The Halcyon Project, it has been carefully written with the idea of creating a standalone piece of fiction.
The story follows the four main characters from the first book as they reunite after a several year hiatus. The action begins as Kirk Anderson, the seasoned Resistive Movement veteran, sends a garbled message to the others, asking for their help. He has been in hiding with a band of desert nomads to avoid the ever watchful eye of Enforcement while Rick, Sheri and Franklin were safe, a thousand miles away from there. Now he’s forced to risk everything in a ditch effort to stop The Board of Policy from implementing its heinous plan to subdue the population. It’s nothing short of mind control on a global scale and the plan is to chemically induce compliance until the masses are nothing more than a heard of easily manageable sheep.
In enlisting the help of his old friends, Kirk unwittingly exposes himself and becomes ensnared by one of the ever present Enforcement traps. With Kirk as a prisoner, it falls on Rick and Sheri to rescue their friend and help set the daring plan in motion. But their first order of business is to elude their captures and not everyone makes it out of the firefight alive.
Once back with the nomads, they mourn the loss of their fallen comrade, but Kirk is all too aware that this is no time for sorrow. The time has come to act and together with the oppressed nomads, Kirk mounts an attack on the city of Chi in an effort to destroy the evil project before it’s ready for initial testing. But there’s a traitor in their midst and the carefully planed attack turns into an appalling ambush.
In full retreat, the party makes their way across the desert to the foot of the ancient hills. As legend has it, the hills with the magical power to defeat one’s enemies and ensure victory to the just. It is in this sacred place that all the tribes of the desert are gathering, for a call has gone out to come and defend their freedom. And in the end, a final battle ensues that determines the future of all free men.
Halcyon II is the story of an oppressive government and those that choose to oppose it. It’s also a story about friendship, loss and courage. At its core, it’s the age old story of good verses evil, but as with life itself, it’s never that black and white.
